Goebella – earthfriendly , recycled outdoor fabrics

Getting Ready to Go Outside

I almost feel guilty saying this with  most of the country buried in snow, but it’s 78 degrees and sunny with clear blue skies today in Los Angeles.  As soon as my daughter wakes up from her nap we’re headed to the Getty.  Perched up on its mountain top, on a day like today,  you can see hundreds of miles beyond the city to snow capped mountains.  With a turn of your head,  you’re in full view of the Pacific Ocean dotted with little white sails and gorgeous Catalina Island.  There’s nothing like the middle of February in LA, clean, clear and blooming.

But….since the rest of you are stuck in the muck- it’s a perfect time to start thinking about what you will be doing with your outdoor spaces come spring.  I’ve just discovered Geobella, a company that carries an eco-friendly outdoor line.   In addition to the stain resistance, moisture wicking and high durability qualities we’ve come to expect from outdoor fabrics,  Geobella is composed entirely of olefin yarn that is recycled from post industrial waste.   The product is recyclable and can be re-extruded up to 10 times.

I’m a sucker for stripes and the line has two that I love.

Sagmore Seagrass (above) and Swizzle Bright (below) remind me of something Victoria Hagan would do, East Coast and fine .

For the”gentlemen’s lounge” inspired by menswear look that is so0000 hot right now, I love  Houndstooth and Bally Castle Tobacco (below).

If you’re dreaming of the tropics, hot with jungle fever, you’ll find the cure with Jungle Beat Lagoon (below).

With French and Spanish inspired patterns like Dhurrie Tan (below) and Quickstep Spice (last photo), the Tradtionalists won’t be left in the cold.

The line also has a wide range of richly hued solids and can be purchased through Plumridge.com. Break out the rum and Coke, turn on the Bob Marley and start thinking about going outside!

Sustainable Silk Dupioni

January 29, 2009

Define : Silk Dupioni > Sustainable

SILK DUPIONI SOLID FABRIC

Our SOLID SILK DUPIONI is made on HAND LOOMS at a rate of 4 yards per day! We use ORGANIC NEEM as a fertilizer and manufacture SUSTAINABLE Silk Dupioni. Hand reared silkworms, hand spun and woven in the traditional method for millenniums.

It was discovered that the NEEM TREE was the only living plant not devastated by the Sudanese Locust Plague, in 1957.
We use the seeds and organic compost made from the Neem Tree to fertilize the Mulberry trees that are used to hand rear the Bombyx Morii silk worms. Also by using mostly natural dyes, we create a SUSTAINABLE silk product. Our fabrics are woven in cottage industry and we directly support the families that weave our cloth.

It is hard to beat  the QUALITY and we think we have one of the biggest selections of COLOR on line.

The SOLID DUPIONI page takes a while to open as there are 145 COLORS shown, ready for easy ordering swatches or yardage on the same page.

Our Silk Dupioni is made ONLY from double nested cocoon.

ORGANIC Sustainable DRAPES FROM PLUMRIDGE

We are now manufacturing SUSTAINABLE SILK FABRIC with USA grown ORGANIC COTTON LININGS.

SUSTAINABLE SILK FABRIC
Our fabric is hand woven in India using individual family weavers that we are directly supporting.
Mulberry leaves that are fed to the silkworms, are organically fertilized with compost from Neem trees that are grown among the Mulberry trees.
Fabrics are made on hand made wooden looms – some of which are at least 100 years old.
No electrical energy is used in the spinning, weaving or dyeing process, leaving a zero carbon foot print.
Painstaking weaving by hand – only 4 yards of silk is produced per day per loom.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON
We use only ORGANIC COTTON that is purchased directly from the mill. Our suppliers are Certified Organic Cotton Fabric Producers and a Members of the Organic Trade Association.

Printed Silk

June 8, 2006

Swirls of water in a mountain stream … Lichen growing on a desert rock …Pebbles rushing in the California surf.

These are some of the inspirations behind a new line of abstract designs printed on Scaff Silk Linen called Abarbanel Plumridge, designed by California artist Joshua Abarbanel for Plumridge Silks. Abarbanel traverses his home state studying, drawing, and photographing the subtle details of the California landscape. Now he is teaming with Plumridge Silks to interpret the beauty and diversity of California’s many geographies—from sandy beaches and rocky points to surprisingly lively deserts and majestic mountain regions—in a new print line on Scaff Silk Linen.

With fabulous luster and body—and treated with fire retardant in the yarn state— Scaff Silk Linen will rival silk dupione for its variety of commercial applications.

The first three series in the Plumridge Abarbanel line are Big Sur, Joshua Tree, and Tahoe. Plumridge Abarbanel will initially offer nine prints per season, three per series. Each print will have four to six color ways that coordinate perfectly with Plumridge’s solid silk linen, and will be printed to order on Scaff Silk Linen with no minimums, making it easy to bring the inspiration of California’s diverse landscape into homes and commercial properties across the country. For more information: 888-660-SILK or http://www.plumridge.com
